This post is a part of Sunday Setlists. Go check out what lots of other cool people did this Sunday.
I felt a little funny when I woke up this morning – tired of course, but also funny in the stomach. I ate breakfast anyway and was about half way through our run through when I realized I was certainly going to die. I know the flu is going around but it came on pretty suddenly today. However, at that point I was beyond the point of no return, and I decided to stay. Besides being sick, I think the morning went well. The high point for me again, was the response time after the speaking. We sang one of my favorite hymns- the lyrical content is so deep and rich.
The only technical problem is that when we came back up to lead Arise my Soul, Arise my capo basically snapped in half. I was going to put it on and it just popped apart. I looked at the other guitar player and said “please give me your capo” and we played it with one guitar, djembe and three voices.
Holy Is The Lord (Tomlin) – G
For Who You Are (Sampson) – E
Break
Blessed Be Your Name (Redman) – A. I co-led this with the male vocals/guitar. I sang the verses and pre-chorus, and he sang the chorus and bridge. Honestly, I think the result was kind of anti-climactic- I was in the sweet part of my range at the end of the pre-chorus and when we transitioned to him singing melody it lost some oomph because it wasn’t in the same part of his range. I know this is rather nit-picky and I’m sure no one even thought about it (well, except another guitar/vocals guy who wasn’t playing today). It may work if we bump it up to Bb or B even.. but then it’d be out of everyone’s range, except the tenors. Something to think about, definitely.
Unashamed (Starfield) – G. We introduced this song today. I love the lyrics, the simplicity of the melody and especially the chorus.
We Fall Down/Doxology (Tomlin) – D. I just strung these two shorter songs together in the key of D and we used the Crowder version of Doxology with the amens at the end which was a great way to end this singing portion of the service.
Talk
Response – Arise, My Soul Arise – Bb/C. These are my favorite verses – but the whole song is amazing. And I don’t know where to find a recording. I heard it at a friends church a few years ago. I know the melody and arrangement we sang today are new but I have no clue who did it.
He ever lives above for me to intercede
His all redeeming love, His precious blood to plead
Before the throne of grace, before the throne of grace
He gladly bends and takes my placeFive bleeding wounds He bears received on calvary
They pour effective prayers they strongly plead for me
Forgive forgive they cry, forgive forgive they cry
This ransomed sinner must not die
So….. How was YOUR Sunday?
Never fun having to battle through illness…
I can’t remember what key we do BBYN in, but it is hard to get that song in a place where it’s comfortable for everyone isn’t it. We haven’t done it for ages actually.
I really need to listen to some more Starfield too!
“Arise my capo broke” !!! LOL! I’m sorry for laughing but I’ve been there. We played at an outdoor park for the community one Sunday. Everything went great for sound check but alas, when we came up to do the first song…no sound from my amp!!! LOL! Oh well, we praised God anyway! I can just see God up in heaven (when these things happen) saying, “see my servant Janaki, she’s still praising me!”
God Bless,
Kip
Hi Janaki,
Sorry to hear your not feeling well. Hope your better soon.
Love “Unashamed” good song!
Thanks for the comment. You had a good set as well. We are thinking about working up Starfield’s version of 40. Any thoughts?
