My inspiration

You need to watch this.

From Wikipedia: Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was a pioneering Gospel singer, songwriter and recording artist who attained great popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and early rock accompaniment. She became the first great recording star of Gospel music in the late 1930s and also became known as the “original soul sister” of recorded music.

This Sunday was wonderful. My good friends Erik and Jamie came to lead worship, so I finally got a week off. It was fabulous to have a week off from rehearsal and leading Sunday morning. I got to sit with Bryce, and take communion with him. I did get to be the ’emcee’ for the service, which I have to admit freaked the heck out of me. Sure, I can sing in front of people all day. But TALK in front of them?!?! I did the announcements, invocation, giving and benediction. And I think it went alright… mostly because I wrote everything I was going to say on a piece of paper.

Of course the band did fantastic. We had a full band – acoustic, electric, bass and drums. Erik’s set looked like this:

Your Grace is Enough (Maher)
Our God Reigns (Erik’s original.. hopefully he’ll post it so I can link to it and you all can get to listen to it’s awesomeness also… hint, hint Erik!)
Blessed be Your Name (Redman)
Cannons (Wickham)
How Great Thou Art
Rescue (Anderson)

Overall the service went really well I thought. If you’d like to hear some of Erik’s original music, check his stuff out here.

As always this post is part of Sunday Setlists!

Song 6 of 24

Song 6 is a silly little song I wrote on my tenor banjo. I videoed it … and even talked a bit so, maybe this counts as a “vlog” too?

I’m so cool 😉

Happy Easter!

We had a great morning at Lifehouse! Here’s our set:

Here is Our King – F

Kids special – Our Redeemer Lives – The kids did fantastic. They were all so cute!

In Christ Alone – A minor
Sweetly Broken – C
Overcome – F
How Deep the Father’s Love For Us – D

Talk

Communion – Arise my Soul, Arise – G/A

Best part of the morning for me was when we did the last chorus of Overcome. It was really powerful to hear everyone sing that out. Worst part was me being pitchy. I’m not sure why but there were a couple of real clunkers. Which, in the scheme of things, does not matter. They felt huge at the time but listening back now I don’t think it was as bad as I thought. Overall I feel really, really good about this morning.

As always, a part of Sunday Setlists!

Song 5 of 24 v. 2.0

Alrighty now. I’ve taken some time today to record this into iTunes so you don’t have to watch me sing awkwardly. However the sound of the video is much better than my recording attempt.

I’ve added a bridge and also fixed up the chart with the bridge and all the right chords.

What do you think?

Song 5 of 24

Finally!

This has been a super busy week so I recorded this new song I wrote. I really hate watching myself on video but I really don’t have time and it’s been so long since I’ve put a song up I decided to just do it.

The song does not have a title… nor does it have a bridge… nor is it finished. I want to add a bridge for sure. I really like it though, especially chord progression. I don’t play enough stuff in minor keys.
