My attempt at 100 pic Friday …

Which actually turned into a 63 pic weekend! Thanks to twitter and @joshuawhite I tried to take 100 pictures with my iPhone on Friday. That didn’t quite work – but here’s my results anyway 🙂

Some are pretty cool, and some suck. On about half I used some effects with an app I have called Camera Bag. Most of them are taken on the way up to and in Seattle, WA, where we attended some Red Sox games and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Here are a few of my favorites. To see the rest click on any picture and it’ll take you to my flickr page.

My inspiration

You need to watch this.

From Wikipedia: Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was a pioneering Gospel singer, songwriter and recording artist who attained great popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and early rock accompaniment. She became the first great recording star of Gospel music in the late 1930s and also became known as the “original soul sister” of recorded music.

Give Up Yer Aul Sins

Wow! These videos are amazing.

“This series, including the original Oscar-nominated short, from Brown Bag Films is based upon the 1960s recordings of young children telling Bible stories in a classroom to their schoolteacher. When a film crew arrives at an inner city Dublin National School to record the children, the result is a warm, funny and spontaneous animated documentary, featuring young children telling the story of John the Baptist, The birth of Jesus, the Crucifixion, Saint Patrick and others. Give Up Yer Aul Sins combines simple humour with clever
animation to create films with a timeless quality and appeal to a family audience.”

Quick Post #2

Right now I’m waiting for the bus to pick me up, and this big black dog walked by. It reminded me of the craziest thing that’s happened to me in a long time.

On a hot and humid day last summer Amanda and I rode our bikes from my house to my sisters. As night fell a big thunder and lightning storm rolled in, and we decided to chance it and ride the three miles back to my house. As soon as we we five blocks away, the heavens opened and immediatly we were drenched to the bone. The power went out and everything was pitch black except our blinky lights and the occasional bolt of lightning.

It was pretty scary and kind of hilarious, and all the way home people were standing on their darkened porches watching the storm. As we turned onto my street I veered onto the sidewalk a few houses before mine. Just at that moment a huge clap of thunder crashed, a bolt of lightning flashed and the neighbors huge black dog came barreling off the porch barking an chasing after me. And then he bit me. Right in the meaty part of the thigh. I yelled at the owners “Your dog BIT ME!” and left my bike in my yard and ran soaking wet to check my wound. When I realized, yes, I was bleeding I marched back over there to scold them. I think I told them something about “keeping their dogs tied up” but I’m not sure. They offered me a beer and I declined, marched back home, put a bandaid on and dried off.

The next day we left for vacation, and while we were gone they left a card and a Peace Lily. Which was very thoughtful.

Quick Post #1

I’ve downloaded the wordpress app to my iPhone. This is my idea: to do quick posts when the inspiration hits. Here is my very first:

Those guys/gals who hang outside the library, coffee shops and new seasons annoy the crap out of me with their clipboards and incessant interuptions. You know who I mean- they want your signature to legalize pot. Or for any ballot measure. These guys certainly are worse than people at kiosks in the mall but not nearly as bad as the men in the robes selling books downtown.

Don’t make eye contact. Say nothankyou and walk away. Quickly.

In case you were wondering why the heck I haven’t updated this blog in about two weeks – the reasons are two-fold:

1. Church has been canceled due to inclement weather the last two Sundays. I’m not sure if I remember how to play music anymore.
2. I’ve been homebound due to the Portland Snowpocalypse (great name, whoever thought that up). Over a foot in our backyard as of this morning. It seems that when I have nothing to do, I do nothing productive. I can barely lift myself off the couch to make a decent meal.

Bryce and I did make it out of the house yesterday – first to check out the neighborhood and watch kids (and adults) sledding at the park. Most everyone was using garbage can lids and boxes. It was quite hilarious. Last night we walked up to Tom’s Pizza, which was closed. The only place open was a second-rate dive bar, but let me tell you, we were desperate.

While we were searching Lombard for anything open, we witnessed a car slide into a two foot pile of snow on the side of the street. The unchained, 80’s sedan was immediately stuck. A police car drove by and stopped to offer assistance. Unfortunately the cop asked the driver for license and insurance, but the driver had neither. Oops. The car got towed.

We’re stuck at home again, neither Bryce or I have a job to go to today. Plans include Videorama, Fred Meyers, and I’m about to make some serious breakfast sandwiches. And more coffee.

Here are some pictures from yesterday. It snowed 3″ last night, and still, it’s snowing more.

Margot hates it.

Thanks inProgress! I love any chance I can get to gripe. Here are 10 things I don’t enjoy:

1. Being late. Myself, or others.
2. Getting stuck behind someone going 10 miles under the speed limit.
3. Last minute changes to my schedule. I don’t deal well with on-the-fly situations. I’m boring like that.
4. Anytime I go to a breakfast potluck/function, everything has eggs in it. I know it’s not anyone’s fault I am allergic to eggs but it’s no fun eating bananas when everyone else is feasting.
5. Dishes, laundry, and all housework in general. I hate living in a dirty house, so I do it, but I complain the whole time. Just ask Bryce, he’ll tell you it’s true.
6. Taking things personally – I do it ALL THE TIME. Silly things, big things, I take it all personally. I wish I didn’t, and I’m working on it, but it stinks.
7. The fact I can’t get our PS3 to connect to the internet. Wired, wireless- I can’t get it to work.
8. Dieting.
9. Being cold.
10. And finally, people who complain. Ha!
