Well, HELLO fall! Woke up this morning to a torrential down pour. Being a holiday weekend I had some trouble finding musicians, but a friend stepped in at the 11th hour (no, seriously, he called me at 11 last night!) and we had a small group – guitar, vocals and a djembe. Here’s our set:

1. Unchanging (Tomlin)
2. Blessed Be Your Name (Redman)
3. Never Let Go/Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (Crowder)
4. Beautiful, Scandalous Night (Daugherty & Hindalong)
5. Holy, Holy, Holy (Arr by Sufjan Stevens)
6. The Doxology (Arr by Tommy Walker)

Our one tech issue was that we overloaded a breaker in the school and half the cafeteria/auditorium we meet in lost power during our rehearsal. While Tom and the school employee searched for the breaker box we did some acoustic rehearsal. We got done on time and everything was great for the service.

So, terribly late in posting this. I’ve been busy this week preparing for the next two weeks – to celebrate Bryce and I’s 5 year anniversary, we are going on a trip. First we’re heading out to the Oregon coast, and then flying up to Grande Prairie, Alberta to stay with his sister and her family. I’ve got a lot of work to do before I leave.

Last Sunday was the fifth Sunday of August – so we, as a church, had breakfast together. To account for that we had a shorter set:

1. Glory to God Forever (Fee, Beeching)
2. For Who You Are (Hillsong)
3. Here I Am to Worship (Hughes)
4. Holy, Holy, Holy (As arranged by Sufjan Stevens)

Overall, it was great. I was really worn out going into the morning because one of my oldest friends had gotten married the day before- which means I was busy for the two weeks prior to the wedding as well 🙂 This was our second time singing Glory to God Forever and I think that it is really catching on well. I chose other really well known songs other than that and the participation level of the crowd was really encouraging.

I am in the middle of a super busy two weeks, so I’ll keep this post short. Sunday was a small team – myself on guitar, a djembe and a vocalist. This was the first time we’ve done Glory to God Forever, and it went well. I think it will find a home in our rotation. It’s a fun, upbeat, catchy song. I am usually drawn toward more contemplative stuff, so I intentionally picked this song to add.

1. Glory to God Forever (Fee, Beeching)
2. All Creatures of Our God and King
3. Sweetly Broken (Riddle)
4. Beautiful, Scandalous Night (Daugherty, Hindalong)
5. Overcome (Egan)
6. Arise, My Soul, Arise

As always, a part of this.

As always, this post is a part of this.

1. Blessed Be Your Name (Redman) – Gb
2. For Who You Are (Hillsong) – E
3. How Great is Our God (Tomlin) – Gb
4. Never Let Go (Crowder) – Db
5. Psalm 46 (Mine) – E
6. Nothing But the Blood (Hymn) – Gb

Another hot and sweaty sunday for us. Despite it being quite warm, we had a great morning. I also got to debut a new song I had written. Here is a recording (not live) that I did really quickly with my iPhone. I was a bit hesitant to use it congregationally but the response from everyone was incredible and overwhelmingly positive.

Let me know what you think in the comments section, pretty please?

Lyrics:

Psalm 46

(Verse 1)
Mountains shake, the world breaks
Life falls down and so do I
Plans change, I make mistakes
No matter how much I’ve tried

(Pre-chorus)
But in the midst of this, You are here
I’m safe in Your strength
You are my refuge, I will not be moved
My heart melts at these words You say

(Chorus)
Oh be still
Oh be still
And know that I am God

(Verse 2)
I believe You are my peace inside of all this grief
I believe You’re what I need in troubled times like these

(Bridge)
Storms come and go, seasons pass and still You stay
Life ebbs and flows, time turns and still You say

Here I am again! Last weekend was my birthday (the big TWO SEVEN) and I had the Sunday off to go camping with my husband and some of our friends. It was good to be back at church on Sunday. Here’s our set:

1. Our God Reigns (Cederberg) – G
2. Holy is the Lord (Tomlin) – D
3. Your Grace is Enough (Maher) – C
4. Great is Thy Faithfulness – G
5. Christ the Solid Rock – D

Overall it was a good morning – the soundboard cooperated, the team sounded good, the music flowed well. My arrangement of Great is Thy Faithfulness was really nice, I changed some of the melody, but not so much that it was confusing to sing along with. Also, it was requested of me to play Christ the Solid Rock for our response/communion time so I got to learn and play it all in one week. I think it went okay for me just learning it this past Wednesday.

Question – how many of you use or enjoy the use of hymns in your gathering? Why? Why not?

As always a party of this.

This post is a part of Sunday Setlists. Click over to Fred’s blog and check out what other churches did this week!

Here’s our song list from Sunday morning:

1. Beautiful One (Hughes) – Bb
2. All Creatures of Our God and King (Crowder version) – A
3. Sing to the King (Foote) – E
4. Never Let Go (Crowder) – C
5. Here Is Love (Redman version) – D

High point – Setup was quick. We’ve been doing this for long enough that mostly everyone just knows what to do instead of standing around waiting to be told. The worship time was great too. We had a simple set up for musicians – guitar, bass, djembe – and I felt like the simplicity of the music really lent to letting our concentration be on God.

Low point – Continual speaker buzz. Frustrating that it was totally unexplainable. Also I made a big mistake on Here is Love. However it was our first time singing it and I don’t think many people realized what I did – I repeated the second verse and sang it to the tune of the chorus. My eyes went to the wrong paragraph on the page and out came the second verse instead of the first chorus which I was meaning to sing. Everyone followed along and I was very lucky that the syllables all fit in the tune.

Also- on the way home Bryce told me that I made some typos on the slides. Of course I had a mini heart attack and started to feel incredibly embarrassed. He let me ramble on about it for about 3 minutes until he told me he was kidding…. I can laugh about it now, anyway 😉

As always… this post is a part of Sunday Setlists!

After my mini-vacation last Sunday, I was happy to get back to doing music this morning. We had a small setup with just two guitars and one backup singer. Our set looked like this:

1. Holy Is The Lord (Tomlin) – D
2. All Creatures of Our God and King (Crowder version) – B
3. Unashamed (Starfield) – E
4. You Alone (Crowder) – D
5. Come Thou Fount – Bb
6. Hungry (Scott) – C

Overall I enjoyed this morning. I was a bit preoccupied during setup because we didn’t have anyone specifically there to run the sound board, we made last minute song choices and I was trying to make sure nothing fell through the cracks. At the last minute I remembered to turn on the ipod for preservice, so everything was taken care of on my end. From my perspective everything sounded good but I found out afterwards the mic was clipping in the main speakers. That’s a bit frustrating because it’s not something anyone knows how to fix exactly. And without a person running the soundboard today there was just nothing we could do. Despite that issue (that I was oblivious to during the service), I think it was a great morning. People were engaged, I was relaxed and we didn’t run over time.

So, tell me… how was your Sunday?
